Every German region had and sometimes still has their traditional costumes. Many people are working with saving these costumes and the artisanship needed to fabricate them. Often the costumes are handed down from mother to daughter and from father to son; each of them can be worth thousands of Euros.
Since 2006, the “Deutscher Trachtenverband” (German Association of Traditional Costumes) selects a Costume of the Year. Here you can see the selected costumes.
